OVERVIEW

Whether you have started taking it seriously or not, but the issue of deterioration of Earth’s environment is a fact. And the situation is becoming worse with every passing day. Issues like increase of pollution, depletion of ozone layer, rise of global warming and thus the water level have brought numerous world famous destinations in danger of existence. Many environmentalists have predicted that many of your beloved destinations will not be in the world anymore after some years if the situation doesn’t improve. Well i don’t know if the situation will improve or nor, but i definitively want to visit these destinations before they disappear. Here is the list of the best 10 places to visit before they disappear.

1. Great Barrier Reef, Australia

  • This is the largest and probably the most popular coral reef in the world. This gigantic reef system consists of over 3000 individual reefs.  This place is home to  turquoise blue water, more than 1500 varieties of fish, billions of tiny organisms, and breathtaking scenery. It is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage list. For additional information, please visit the official website.
  • Sadly, 50% of this spectacular reef has already disappeared in the last 27 years due to global warming and coral bleaching. To add to that, i is being estimated that the Great Barrier Reef would be irreversibly damaged by the year 2030 and eventually disappear.

2. Franz Josef Glacier – South Island, New Zealand

This beautiful glacier is one of the most famous glaciers of New Zealand. This stunning glacier descends from a height of about 11,500 feet to just 300 feet above sea level.  Environmentalists have reported that this glacier have been sinking since the year 2000. On an average, this has shortened the overall glacier by 38% and 25% of its land area have been lost.  If this continues,  it would simply disappear in the next 100 years.

3. Amazon Rain Forest – South America

This is the largest tropical rain forest in the world and it covers an astounding 1.4 billion acres. It is so huge that it covers 6 countries including Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, and Suriname. 20% of all the species found in the world are found in the Amazon. This huge wonderful rain forest could entirely disappear off of the face of the earth in the next 50 years due to the problems like deforestation, global warming, mining and more.

4. Glacier National Park – United States

As the name suggests, this national park is famous for being home to numerous glaciers. And some rare animals including elk, mountain goats, and grizzly bears.  When this park started there were about 150 glaciers in this place. Now that number has came down to 25. And according to scientists, the remaining 25 will also disappear by 2030.

5. The Maldives

The islands of Maldives can easily be rated as one of the most beautiful places on earth. Well according to experts, this whole place will be submerged under water within the next 100 years due to global warming. So i think its you should definitely visit this place and admire probably the most beautiful white sand beaches on the planet, before it disappears.

6. Machu Picchu – Peru

Machu Pichu was an ancient citadel dating back to the 15th century. It was completely destroyed a century later of its foundation. After being found in the 19th century, this site is famous for fascinating ancient ruins of the lost country(as they call it) and the breathtaking view this site offers.  Sadly, these precious ruins are being damaged due to carelessness of the thousands of tourists visiting this site daily. The visitors walk and jump on these ruins due to which they have deteriorated overtime. And if this continues, these ruins will be completely destroyed eventually.

7. Taj Mahal India

This architectural marvel is one of the seven wonders of the world. The facades and dome of this stunning mausoleum is covered with ivory white marble which adds all the beauty to it. The Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, got it made to house the tomb of his wife. According to experts, white marble which one of the most important things to Taj Mahal, is deteroating day by day due to the factors like air pollution. Additionally the wood which supports the structure is also decaying every passing day. It is believed that the visitors will have no more than four years to visit this amazing architectural wonder.

8. Vienna

Don’t worry, Vienna is not going anywhere. The thing in danger is the value of its historic center. This is the most  which is a array of historic buildings and grand boulevards. UNESCO has classified the historic center ‘List of World Heritage in Danger’. The reason of it being in danger is the construction of new buildings, especially high rises around the existing buildings which will undermine the value of the place. If the new construction is not planned keeping this issue in mind, the historic center won’t have any importance in the next few years.

9. The Dead Sea

  • The Dead sea is a famous salty lake between Israel and Jordan. Tourist from all around the world flock to this lake to float in the mineral rich water this lake offers and soak in some health benefits. Again sadly, this lake is disappearing with every passing day. The main reason are this is the agriculture and chemical industries.
  • The chemical industries pump the salty water from the Dead sea to as it is used to make fertilizers. Agriculture industries also pump this water and divert to their fields. Due to this, the Dead sea is disappearing day by day.

10. Cambodia

There are places which are disappearing naturally due to problems like pollution and global warming. Then there are places which are disappearing on the will of its people for profits. The Cambodian government has sold its many natural resources to other countries, just for the money. This includes sand from its coastal mangrove forests, which they sold to Singapore. This activity have destroyed Cambodia’s natural barrier against rising sea levels, tsunamis and hurricanes, endangered native wildlife and ruined local villages. Before its too late, do visit tis beautiful country.
